No commentsRounder Signs rock band Delta Spirit
Burlington, MA – Rounder Records is pleased to announce the signing of the 5-piece southern California rock band, Delta Spirit. Rounder will release their much-anticipated debut album, Ode to Sunshine late summer/early fall of 2008.
The raw spirit of indie rockers the Walkmen and Spoon. An amplified, rocking version of 60’s protest folk. The soulful passion of the Violent Femmes and the Waterboys. All of these comparisons have been made in attempts to describe Delta Spirit, the southern California 5-piece who might just be one of the most important new bands of the decade.
Each description contains elements of the truth, but the real answer to the question “who is Delta Spirit?” lies within Ode to Sunshine, the band’s captivating debut. The group’s DIY ethic shines throughout the album, whose songs were honed razor-sharp over a year of non-stop touring across America. Opening sold-out tours for Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Cold War Kids, and Dr. Dog, the band developed a riveting live show and gained a loyal following amongst tastemaker music fans, earning them invites to national festivals like Austin City Limits, Noise Pop and Sasquatch. So it would not be an understatement to call Ode to Sunshine one of the year’s most highly-anticipated debuts. But don’t take our word for it; in the words of Delta Spirit: “If you’re feeling what I’m feeling come on, all you soul searching people come on.”

Reckless Kelly release ‘Bulletproof,’ June 24 on Yep Roc
On Bulletproof, their first album with the Yep Roc label, roots-rock rogues Reckless Kelly explore fragility in relationships and the state of our country. The band’s fifth studio album shows their signature duality of barroom ballads and rocking fight songs at its pinnacle.
Bulletproof features a superb songwriting collaboration between frontman Willy Braun and country icon Robert Earl Keen on “God Forsaken Town,” a song about a person holding out from evacuating during Hurricane Katrina.
The grit and gristle of Braun’s voice brings the vulnerability of love songs like “A Guy Like Me” and “Bulletproof” to life without the threat of ever being saccharin.
One of the most poignant tracks on Bulletproof is “American Blood” a song criticizing the war in Iraq because of the loss of American troops.
While brothers Willy Braun (guitars, vocals) and Cody Braun (fiddle, mandolin, vocals), David Abeyta (electric guitar, vocals), Jimmy McFeeley (bass), and Jay Nazz (drums) haven’t released a studio album since 2005’s critically acclaimed Wicked Twisted Road, they remain road warriors and as much of a Texas staple as buckles, boots, and Budweiser. The band recently offered a preview of the new album on the popular, nationally syndicated Big Show with John Boy & Billy, the same show credited with helping to launch Robert Earl Keen’s career.
BULLETPROOF track list:
- Ragged As The Road
- You Don’t Have To Stay Forever
- Love IN Her Eyes
- Passin’ Through
- I Never Had A Chance
- One False Move
- A Guy Like Me
- American Blood
- How Was California
- Mirage
- Don’t Say Goodbye
- God Forsaken Town
- Wandering Eye
- Bulletproof
